April 14, 2011

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team raided a residence on the Buffalo Shoals Road Thursday morning.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sgt, Steven Grinnell received information that James Andrew Woods Jr. was wanted on a number of charges and was at the residence at 843 Buffalo Shoals Road in Lincolnton. Grinnell confirmed the information and contacted the SWAT team leader.

The Baker District officers and SWAT team met with Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter at a predetermined location at 5:30 a.m. Thursday for a briefing before going into the residence with a search warrant. Officers surprised Woods and found him asleep on a recliner in the living room. Woods, who was on the run from law enforcement for several months, was taken into custody without incident.

Woods had outstanding warrants from Catawba, Gaston and Lincoln counties. He was served with felony warrants for possession with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of marijuana exceeding half an ounce and a true bill of indictment. He was also served with two misdemeanor warrants for failure to appear in court.

Woods was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $283,700 secured bond.
