SUV flips in I-40 wreck

Bridge work and rush hour traffic played a part in a two car collision on Interstate 40 just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Two SUVs were traveling west on I-40 near exit 132 when a Chevrolet Tahoe forced the Isuzu Montero into the safety wall at the part of the road that shifts due to nearby construction. As the Tahoe pushed the Montero into the safety wall, the SUV continued to move and then bounced into the guard rail on the right. The impact against the guard rail threw the Montero and it flipped on it’s top and landed on it’s side. N.C. Highway Patrol said the accident was caused when the Tahoe did not shift as the roadway directs. The accident happened where road workers are building a new N.C. 16 bridge over I-40.
