SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Red Devils win, Tigers fall

Gretchen Crider scored two goals and assisted on another, helping the Newton-Conover girls soccer team defeat East Lincoln 4-1 on Saturday in Denver.

Chaniece Moss also pocketed a goal and made an assist for the Lady Red Devils (20-1-1). Jennifer Nungaray netted the final Newton-Conover goal, while Sarah Gill made the final LRD assist.

N-C goalkeeper Taylor Petty made four assists.

Ashbrook 3, Fred T. Foard 2 (Ashbrook wins 4-3 on PKs)

After four overtime periods, the Lady Tigers had their season ended by the Lady Green Wave on Saturday.

Alexis Davis and Hannah Bradshaw had one goal each for Foard, which finishes its season with an 11-8-3 overall record.

MacKenzie Bess pocketed both goals for Ashbrook (17-1-2) and also made one penalty kick.

Georgia Belk, Savannah Karam and Maddy Hammon also had PK makes for the Lady Green Wave.

Foard's Adele Jarrett, Maggie Marshall and Bradshaw each made one penalty kick.

However, the Lady Tigers' Carson Molaro had her PK attempt blocked by Ashbrook goalkeeper Conner McCuen to give the Lady Green Wave the dramatic victory.

St. Stephens 2, Patton 0 (suspended)

The Lady Indians led the Lady Panthers by two goals with 15:30 to go in the first half of Saturday's playoff game in Hickory before rain caused the contest to be postponed.

Macy Franklin pocketed both goals for the Lady Indians (17-3-2).

St. Stephens and Patton will resume play on Monday at 5:30 pm.
