Smoldering semi

An employee at Hickory Springs Manufacturing (HSM) in Conover was taken to the hospital after suffering second degree burns Monday morning.

The fire started in a semi-trailer around 7:20 a.m. When the employee opened the door, the fire backdrafted on him and began to spread, according to Conover Fire Chief Mark Hinson.
