Catawba Valley Medical Center and Catawba Valley Community College recently formed a working partnership to bring in expertise to the ValleySim Hospital, a training facility at the CVCC campus in Hickory.

ValleySim opened as a simulated health care facility at CVCC specializing in education and training for students pursuing a career in the medical field as well as practicing professionals. Through the partnership, CVMC is providing staff to work the operations of the simulated hospital.

To grow the program CVMC hired Ty Wright to be the director of ValleySim Hospital. Wright works to coordinate the ValleySim simulation schedule between professors as well as professional organizations. As a part of Wright’s job, he is also working to spread the word about ValleySim and welcome hospitals, nursing facilities and any other organization to ValleySim for possible training. Through the partnership, CVMC has already taken advantage of the facility, and has used the simulation hospital for training and nursing orientation since the facilities opening, Wright said.
