August 25, 2010

The Hickory Crawdads scored five runs through the first five innings to rally from an early 2-0 deficit. But Delmarva rallied from the 5-2 deficit Tuesday and defeated the Crawdads 11-6 in the series finale at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Shorebirds scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn the come-from-behind win.

The loss Tuesday keeps Hickory three games behind Lakewood, which split a doubleheader Tuesday with Hagerstown. Lakewood and Hickory play a four-game series starting Wednesday at Frans Stadium.

Delmarva led 1-0 in the first inning on a solo home run by Ty Kelly, and it led 2-0 in the third after a sacrifice fly by T.J. Baxter.
Hickory took a 3-2 lead Tuesday in the fifth with three consecutive RBI doubles by Jared Bolden, Zach Zaneski and Matt West. The Crawdads extended their lead in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Leury Garcia, who later scored on a sac fly by Zaneski.

The Shorebirds tied the game at 5 in the seventh inning, and Hickory retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Delmarva scored six runs in the ninth for the win.

Hickory pitcher Ovispo De Los Santos took the loss Tuesday, and Delmarva’s T.R. Keating earned the win.

Hickory pitcher Robbie Erlin started the game.
