Service to honor fallen N.C. Coast Guardsman

March 6, 2012

MOBILE, Ala. — U.S. Coast Guard officials say a memorial service is planned for Thursday to honor an N.C. guardsman and other crew members of a helicopter that crashed in Mobile Bay a week ago.

An MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crashed in the bay's shallow waters during a training mission Feb. 28.

Lt. Cmdr. Dale Taylor, of Snow Hill, was aboard the aircraft. His wife, Teresa, was a 1994 graduate of Bunker Hill High School and has family in Catawba County.

Searchers last week recovered the remains of Taylor and Lt. j.g. Thomas Cameron of Portland, Ore. Chief Petty Officer Fernando Jorge was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead shortly after the crash.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Knight, of the southwest Alabama town of Thomasville, remains missing.

The memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. at the Coast Guard Aviation Center in Mobile.
