Catawba County emergency crews spent several hours Tuesday night and all day Wednesday searching for a man who disappeared while fishing along the Catawba River.

The missing man has been identified as Zoua Pa Chang, 30, from Claremont.

Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said Chang went fishing with a friend around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chang and his friend split up  to fish different locations around along the shoreline below Lookout Shoals Dam around 7 p.m.

He was last seen fishing along the rocky shoreline in the area of the old bridge pilings.
