School gives back to teens
Friday, Feb. 8, three students and principal Tim Woody from Bandys High School took a field trip to the mall. While the field trip seemed unlike any other conventional field trip, the students weren’t going to buy any, they were dropping off jeans.
During the month of January, Bandys participated in Jeans for Teens. The drive started when FCA freshman member, Adreanna White mentioned the jean drive to teacher Donna Lutz-Carpenter.
Lutz-Carpenter said she looked up information on the drive and saw that the clothing drive was linked to surveys given to homeless teens in shelters. Lutz-Carpenter said while doing her research she found that jeans were the number one item teens needed and requested when visiting shelters.
“The drive is run through Aeropostale and they take the jeans, wash them or refurbish them and then give them back to the county they came from,” Lutz-Carpenter said.
