Ryan Gettys is returning to coaching at Fred T. Foard High School.

The former Tigers head football coach is taking over the boys and girls tennis programs at Foard.

Gettys had been at Bunker Hill High School as an assistant football coach this past two schools years and also taught personal finance, planning and marketing at the school.

As Foard football coach for eight seasons (2003-10), Gettys led the Tigers to a 30-61 record, but he resigned on Dec. 8, 2010 following an 0-11 season.

Gettys moved over to Bunker Hill in 2011, where he served as the Bears wide receivers coach. He was promoted to the Bears defensive coordinator midway through last season after John Mackey stepped away due to health issues.

Foard had been without a full-time tennis coach since Taylor McDaniel stepped down in 2011.

Last season, Katie Tharp coached the Lady Tigers on the tennis court, while Ernie Wilson served as boys tennis coach on an interim basis.

The Tigers still have three coaching vacancies, including a head and an assistant coach in girl’s basketball, as well as a head softball coach.
