After a 2-9 season and missing the playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons, Brint Russell has resigned as the head football coach at Newton-Conover High School.

Russell submitted his official letter of resignation on Wednesday to Newton-Conover City School officials.

“I am resigning my position as head football coach at Newton-Conover High School effective immediately,” Russell said in the letter. “I am making this decision on my own free will. I feel that it is in my best interest and the best interest of Newton-Conover High School to make a coaching change at this time.”
