Returning to band camp

Eighty-three teenagers telling summer vacation stories, banging on drums and blowing trumpets doesn't phase  Haskew Smith.

He's used to the kids who “maybe cut-up in other classes, but do well with tactile, kinesthetic learning,” the band instructor says.

Smith is finishing the last hem measurements for band uniforms, and the students have just come in from marching in the blistering August heat.
