Seven North Carolina law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2011. Throughout the nation, 36 officers have already fallen this year.

To date, there have been about 510 line-of-duty deaths in the state of North Carolina, including nearly a dozen officers from Catawba County.

On Thursday, current and retired law enforcement officers from throughout the area proved that though those officers are gone, they are not forgotten.

Police, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, district attorneys, family and friends all gathered Thursday in Hickory for a “Peace Officers” memorial service.
