The Newton-Conover Red Devils rolled to a shutout at home Wednesday against conference opponent East Burke. The Red Devils defeated the Cavaliers 5-0 in a soccer match at Newton-Conover and earned their second conference win of the season.
Newton-Conover improved to 2-1-0 against the Catawba Valley 2-A. The Red Devils remain within one game of league-leading West Caldwell.
Newton-Conover gained the momentum early Wednesday scoring two goals in the first seven minute. Lucas Hernandez scored the first goal in the fourth minute with an assist from Christian Marinero. Hernandez had a hat trick in the conference win with two more goals in the 19th and 45th minutes.
Franklin Wepner gave the Red Devils a 4-0 lead in the 27th minute with a goal off a rebounded shot from Marinero. Marinero scored his only goal of the match in the 27th minute. John Reid earned the assist.
WEST CALDWELL 1, BANDYS 0
West Caldwell shut out Bandys at home Wednesday in a conference match. Axel Guerra scored the lone goal of the match in the 39th minute. West Caldwell's Tony Garcia earned the shutout win in goal.
The Warriors improved to 3-0-0 against the CVAC, and Bandys dropped to 1-2-0.
HIBRITEN 3, ST. STEPHENS 1
The No. 13 Indians lost a conference match by two goals on the road Wednesday to the No. 14 Panthers. Chris Sigmon scored the Indians' only goal, and Ben Watson had the assist.
