Bandys won 17 games in a row entering Tuesday’s girls basketball game against Newton-Conover.

The Lady Red Devils made sure there wouldn’t be an 18th straight victory.
Freshman Taylor Petty scored 20 points for N-C (16-3, 8-1), while seniors Shynese Whitener and Kadesha Gibbs added 20 and 19 points, respectively, lifting the LRDs to the rivalry win at home.

Newton-Conover, who is undefeated at home, jumped out to a 13-3 lead, forcing a Bandys timeout.

The Trojans (17-1, 8-1) surged back to get within two points before the Lady Red Devils pushed their lead back to double-digits with a Whitener three late in the first half.

Bandys managed to cut the N-C lead to six points in the second half, but the Newton-Conover margin remained around 10 points for a majority of the half.

Madi Story led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, while Brittany Moss added 14 points.

In her first game back from a back injury, Bandys senior Jesse Story scored eight points.

Colton Medlin led Bandys with a game-high 15 points, including 11 points in the second half.
