Rabies case reported in Newton

Catawba County recorded its fourth rabies case of 2012 last week after two dogs got into a fight with a raccoon that tested positive for the disease.
On Thursday, animal control officers responded to a call that two dogs were observed fighting with the raccoon.

The raccoon was sent to the State Health Lab in Raleigh for testing. The State Lab notified Catawba County on Monday that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
