With a grant in process, Bunker Hill Covered Bridge may be getting a facelift along with the first new connection to the Carolina Thread Trail designated in Catawba County.

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners is working with the state and Carolina Thread Trail to connect the historical landmark with other trails throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. The Carolina Thread Trail is a 96-mile stretch of trails and greenways. This regional network of paths runs through 15 counties and is for hiking and biking as well as natural exploration. With the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge being added to the map, Claremont and Catawba communities would be linked to the other 2.3 million people who have public access to the trail ways and possibly benefit in the tourism industry
