Primary election results official

Catawba County's 2012 primary election results are official after elections leaders canvassed votes Tuesday.

County elections director Larry Brewer said no race outcomes changed following the canvass, a final certification of voting results.

Official results showed 35,404 Catawba County residents voted in the primary election, equal to 34.99 percent of registered voters.

Catawba County citizens cast 26,088 votes (74.15 percent) in favor of the North Carolina constitutional marriage amendment approved statewide.

In a Catawba County Board of Commissioners Republican primary, incumbents Dan Hunsucker (13,111, or 37.78 percent) and Barbara Beatty (10,536, or 30.36 percent) gained the most votes and won spots in November's general election.

In U.S. House District 10 primaries, Republican Patrick McHenry and Democrat Patsy Keever received the most votes districtwide. Both candidates also carried Catawba County.
