Pressure at the pump

August 15, 2012

When William Lemons first started driving gas was 15 cents a gallon. Now Lemons and his wife are paying $3.73 for Plus unleaded.

“I can’t afford to fill up my tank. I put $20 in twice a week,” said Lemons.

Lemons and his wife are both retired. When they leave the house it is usually for a day trip of errands, he said. Lemons isn’t the only one feeling the pressure at the pump.

All N.C. drivers can expect an average tank of gas to come in around $3.61. According to AAA Carolinas, this time last year gas prices for the month of August were at $3.70. During the month of August alone prices at the pump increased 21 cents, AAA reports. Good news for Newton residents. Two gas stations have dropped prices this week, at both Exxon and Hess-Wilco with gas at $3.59 and $3.58 a gallon.
