PREP NOTEBOOK: Wilkerson's 20 Ks best Indians

Chelsea Wilkerson struck out 20 St. Stephens batters and allowed one hit, leading the Lady Cougars to the 2-0 victory in conference play.

Lady Indians first basemen Darian Fisher broke up a perfect game by Wilkerson in the sixth inning with a single.

St. Stephens falls to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the Northwestern conference.

Newton-Conover 11, West Caldwell 10

Lady Red Devil Sara Van Horn plated a run in the seventh inning to lift her team its first conference victory of the season.

Picking up the victory on the mound was Catherine Jones, who struck out one and allowed five walks and 14 hits.

Bunker Hill 6, Bandys 0

Jason Setzer drove in two RBIs and Colton Chapman scored three times to lead Bunker Hill to the 6-0 Catawba Valley 2A baseball victory on the diamond Friday over Bandys in Catawba.

The Trojans (8-4, 4-3) left 13 runners on base, including two innings with the bases loaded.

Chapman scored in the first inning after walking, stealing second and was plated on a Setzer single.

The Bears (8-5, 4-2) biggest inning came in the second, when three runs came across.

Singles by Chapman and Setzer plated Justin Aiken and Justin Quick, respectively.

A throwing error later in the inning from center field allowed Chapman and Setzer to come across for the 5-0 Bunker Hill lead.

Chapman scored for the third time in the game in the sixth inning on a double steal attempt, which included Setzer.

Pitching five innings, Chapman picked up the victory on the mound, striking out four Bandys batters, allowing six hits and seven walks.
Bunker Hill’s Seth Brotherton earned the two-inning save.

Hayden Deal suffered the loss, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) off of five hits, two walks and struck out four.

West Caldwell 4, Newton-Conover 3 (nine innings)

The Red Devils foced extra inning with a two-run bottom of the seventh, but the Warriors scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth by Dustin McElyea.

Warriors' pitcher Tucker Beane struck out 10 Newton-Conover batters in 8.2 innings on the mound./

Alexander Central 10, St. Stephens 9

Luke Watt hit a grand slam to lead the Cougars to the Northwestern 3A/4A victory on Friday.

Tad Ratcliff pitched six innings, allowing four earned on eight hits, struck out six Indians and walked four.

Bandys 8, Bunker Hill 0

Cassidy Winchester scored four goals, while Monica Mayer scored two to lead the Lady Trojans to the shutout victory at home against the Lady Bears.

Bandys (9-2-1, 4-2-0) led 5-0 at halftime behind three goals from Winchester and two from Mayer.

In the second half, Ceana Aguiree and Katie Spaulding scored goals, while Winchester added her fourth goal in the 58th minute.

Assisting on five of the goals were Allie Santos, Heather Edwards, Winchester, Mayer and Spaulding.

Maria Carinci and Syd Hall were the winning keepers with three saves.

Watauga 4, Fred T. Foard 1

Kendyl Baird scored twice to lead the Lady Pioneers to the NWC win.

Caroline Durham netted the lone goal for Foard.

St. Stephens 5, Alexander Central 0

The Lady Indians improved to a conference-best 9-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the Northwestern 3A/4A with a shutout against the Lady Cougars.

Macy Franklin scored three goals, while Olivia Holmes and Alex Roarke added on goal each in the win.

Holmes also had an assist in the game, as did Kalyn Meosky and Lauren Brooks.

Lady Indians goalkeeper Taylor Logan earned the shutout.
