PREP NOTEBOOK: Tigers win home soccer opener

The Fred T. Foard boys soccer team won its home opener against the Crest Chargers in shutout fashion on Tuesday, 2-0.

Mario Carrillo scored on an unassisted goal to open scoring for Foard (4-0-0), while Crest pocketed an own goal for the second netter.

St. Stephens 3, Kings Mountain 0

The Lady Indians swept the Lady Mountaineers on the road Tuesday, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12.

Jenna Boliek led St. Stephens (3-0) with 14 kills, Breanna Hall tallied nine kills and Marisa Jones added eight kills.

Defensively, Ashley Markland recorded 15 digs, while Jodi Kerley added eight digs.

Katelyn Houser led the team in assists with 21, while Bailey Cloninger was just behind with 20.

Maiden 3, Lincolnton 0

The Lady Blue Devils picked up their second win over the Lady Wolves in as many weeks on Tuesday, 25-12, 25-7 and 25-7.

Mckenzie Garrison led Maiden (4-1) with eight kills, while Rachel Houston added five kills.

Kalie Johnson had a team-high 12 assists on kills, while Hannah Martin added 11 assists.

North Gaston 3, Fred T. Foard 2

The Lady Tigers lost their first game of the season at home on Tuesday, falling to Lady Wildcats in five sets, 26-24, 26-28, 25-22, 18-25 and 14-16.

Madison Hayes led Foard (3-1) with 19 kills. Rebecca Scott led the Lady Tigers with 38 assists.

Defensive, Morgan Smith had three blocks, while Zoe Fox dug up 32 North Gaston kill attempts.

North Iredell 3, Newton-Conover 0

The Lady Red Devils lost their second-straight game, falling to the Lady Raiders in Olin on Tuesday, 25-9, 25-12 and 25-17.

Madison Vaughn led North Iredell with 14 kills, while Holly Baldwin assisted on 45 Lady Raider kills.
