PREP NOTEBOOK: Tigers stay perfect, blank Indians

March 21, 2012

Fred T. Foard improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northwestern 3A/4A with a victory on the softball field Wednesday against St. Stephens in Hickory.

The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first. Following her double, Ashley Oliver scored later in the inning on a throwing error at first base.

Centerfielder Addie Bolick made it a 2-0 Foard lead in the top of the fourth.

Bolick doubled and advanced twice on passed balls, including a run scored at home plate.

Bolick scored again in the top of the sixth inning, when teammate Rebecca Rowe drove her home on an RBI double.

The Indians (5-4, 2-2) struggled to muster runs, putting two runners on base in the game, including a single by Taylor Lail.

Foard junior pitcher Lexi Shubert allowed one Indian hit and no walks, while striking out 11 Saint batters in seven innings.

Bandys 20, West Caldwell 0

Freshman Kathleen Rearden nearly threw a perfect game, allowing one walk, as the Lady Trojans rolled to the conference victory against the Lady Warriors on Wednesday.

Scarlett Harris led Bandys offensively with a double and a home run, while Tiffany Holland went 3-for-3 from the plate.

“Our whole team laced together hits,” said Trojans coach Randi Keith. “It was a great team effort. Many of our girls came out of our game either hitting the ball well or being wise at the plate by taking walks.”

Bandys (3-2, 1-1) hosts Maiden (8-1, 3-0) in a key CVAC 2A softball game today in Catawba.
