The Newton-Conover girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday, shutting out Alexander Central 9-0 at home.

The Lady Indians marched to 7-0 overall on the season with a non-conference shutout win over the Lady Wildcats on Wednesday 25-10, 25-20 and 25-21.
Breanna Hall and Marisa Jones led Saint with eight kills each. Katelyn Houser and Bailey Cloninger tallied 13 assists each, while Jenna Boliek made six service aces.
Defensively, Ashley Markland recorded 10 digs for the Lady Indians.
St. Stephens 5, Avery County 0
Rafael Sauceda scored three goals to lead the Indians to the shutout on the road against the Vikings.
Tommy Vo and Andrew Barton scored the other goals for St. Stephens (4-3), while Nich Bryant and Vo each assisted twice on scores. Osvaldo Cruz also made an assist.
