PREP NOTEBOOK: Red Devils roll on soccer field

The Newton-Conover soccer team pulled ahead 4-1 by halftime and cruised to a 6-1 conference victory against Bunker Hill on Thursday.

Franklin Wepner led the Red Devils (7-3-1, 5-1-0) with two goals and two assists.

Turner Glynn, Chandler Johnson, Eli Cordes and Brian See also scored goals for Newton-Conover.

Cesar Lara, Glynn and Johnson picked up assists in the victory.

Bunker Hill's goal was scored by Joel Hernandez on an assist from Carlos Macias.

Bandys 8, Maiden 0

Kenny Ryan scored three goals and Emilio Torres added two to help the Trojans pick up a conference victory Thursday against the Blue Devils.

Armando Rivera, Heptzel Santos and J. Will Edwards also netted a goal each for Bandys (5-8, 4-4), while Alec Crowe, Ben Howden and Rivera had assists.

Thomas Simmons got the shut out in goal for the Trojans.

Maiden falls to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the Catawba Valley 2A.

Prep volleyball

St. Stephens 3, Hibriten 0

The Lady Indians picked up conference win No. 10 with a sweep against the Lady Panthers 25-12, 25-10 and 25-11.

Rebecca Millsaps and Breanna Hall led Saint (19-1, 10-1) with four aces each. Jenna Boliek added nine kills.

Bunker Hill 3, Newton-Conover 1

The Lady Bears earned a victory on "Dig Pink" night against the Lady Red Devils 25-19, 25-21, 12-25 and 25-18.

Megan Fair led Bunker Hill (7-13, 6-6) with 18 kills and five blocks.

Newton-Conover falls to 8-12 overall and 6-6 in the CVAC.

Maiden 3, Bandys 1

The Lady Blue Devils picked up a rivalry win against the Lady Trojans on Thursday in four sets 17-25, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-15.

Mckenzie Garrison led Maiden (14-4, 10-2) with 16 kills and two blocks, while Rachel Houston added seven kills and three blocks.

Alexis Barr paced Bandys (8-11, 7-5) with 10 blocks and four kills in the contest.
