PREP NOTEBOOK: Maiden wins, moves into second

The Maiden volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over East Burke on Tuesday 25-23, 25-14 and 25-14.

By virtue of Bandys loss to South Iredell, the Lady Blue Devils (10-3) moved into sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the CVAC standings with a 6-1 conference record.

Mckenzie Garrison paced Maiden with 17 kills, Rachel Houston made three blocks, Hannah Martin tallied 25 assist and Kalie Johnson added 15 assists.

The Lady Cavaliers fall to 6-7 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

South Iredell 3, Bandys 0

The Lady Trojans dropped only their second conference match of the season to the league-leading Lady Vikings 25-27, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-5.

Alexis Barr led Bandys (6-6, 5-2) with nine blocks and three kills. Kayla Champion added six kills, two aces and six digs.

South Iredell improves to a CVAC-best 7-0 with a 9-4 overall record.

Draughn 3, Newton-Conover 0

The Lady Wildcats shut out the Lady Red Devils in Valdese on Tuesday 25-17, 25-15 and 25-20.

Draughn improves to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the CVAC, while Newton-Conover falls to 3-11 and 2-5 in the Catawba Valley 2A.

Bunker Hill 3, West Caldwell 0

The Lady Bears picked up their third-straight CVAC victory against the Lady Warriors 25-21, 25-22, 25-9.

Bunker Hill improves to 5-10 overall and 4-3 in the CVAC, while West Caldwell falls to 0-7 both overall and in conference play.
