PREP NOTEBOOK: Indians, Tigers tie on soccer field

September 24, 2012

In a battle of top soccer teams in the Northwestern 3A/4A, Fred T. Foard and St. Stephens played to a draw.

The Tigers and Indians each scored three goals in a 3-3 tie on the soccer field Monday in Newton.

Andrew Bare put the Indians (8-4-1, 3-0-1) up 1-0 early after an assist from Nich Bryant, but Foard's Logan Winstead equalized the contest with an unassisted goal of his own.

Mario Carillo scored the second-straight goal for the Tigers (11-2-1, 2-2-1) to put Foard up 2-1 late.

However, a corner kick goal by Bryant with less than a minute to play tied the contest and sent it into overtime.

In the extra period, Luke Bruce put St. Stephens up in the early stages of overtime, but Foard once again answered.

Kenan Ruffner netted a Tiger goal on a Daniel Tomberlin assist to tie the contest for good.
