The Maiden and St. Stephens volleyball teams had their seasons ended on Thursday in the third round of the state playoffs.
Down 2-1 in their match with West Henderson (25-3), the Lady Indians (24-2) battled deep into the fourth set to stay alive, but eventually fell 33-31 to drop the match and have their season ended.
The Lady Blue Devils (21-5), who had reached the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2008, lost in five sets to Polk County 25-16, 14-25, 26-28, 25-17 and 15-9.

Despite leading 2-1 at halftime, the Red Devils dropped a tough contest on the road against the Vikings on Thursday.
Chandler Johnson, Brian See and Eli Cordes all scored goals for Newton-Conover (12-6-1, 10-4-0), while John Tate, Cesar Lara and Dan Avis assisted on those goals.
South Iredell clinches the Catawba Valley 2A crown with a 17-1-2 record overall and 14-0 CVAC mark.
