PREP NOTEBOOK: Freedom hands Foard 1st loss

The Freedom boys basketball team knocked off previously unbeaten Fred T. Foard on Friday with a 65-57 win in Morganton.

Defense helped the Patriots (8-2), who scored 18 points off of Tiger turnovers in Friday's game.

Jeron Hemphill scored a game-high 23 points to lead Freedom in the victory.

Joe Isenhour paced Foard (8-1) with 17 points and five rebounds, while Spencer Matthews added 10 points and six boards.

The Lady Tigers' six-game winning streak game to an end Friday in Morganton at the hands of the Lady Patriots (9-1).

Four Freedom players reached double digits in scoring during Friday's game, including 16 points from Imani Williams, 13 points from Mary Michaux, 11 points from Courtney Tate and 10 points form Tyra Kirkpatrick.

Courtney Hull led Foard (6-3) with 15 points, while Chelsea Turner added 14 points.
