PREP NOTEBOOK: Foard's Shubert throws two-hitter

Fred T. Foard's Lexi Shubert threw a two-hitter against West Wilkes on Tuesday, striking out eight batters in the Lady Tiger's 11-1 victory.

Shubert and teammate Olivia Purvis led Foard (1-0) with two hits each. Purvis had a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

Foard's Addison Bolick and Ashley Oliver each had home runs in the game, including a two-run homer by Bolick in the fifth inning and a solo bomb by Oliver in the first inning.

Girls soccer

Bandys 2, North Iredell 1

The Lady Trojans started their season with a victory Tuesday night, defeating the Raiders in Catawba on Tuesday night.

Katie Spaulding opening the scoring for Bandys (1-0) with a goal at the 9-minute mark on an assist from Ceana Aguirre.

An own goal by Bandys at the 16th minute tied the game, but senior Cassidy Winchester's goal on an assist from Allie Santos in the first minute of the second half put the Lady Trojans up for good.

St. Stephens 3, Mooresville 0

Macy Franklin netted a hat trick to lead the Indians to 2-0 record at the Lady Indians Memorial Classic.

Lauren Brooks also had an assist for St. Stephens (2-0), while Taylor Logan earned the shutout in goal.
