PREP NOTEBOOK: First day of fall prep sports action

The first day of fall prep sports started Tuesday with a full slate of games, including volleyball, girls tennis and boys soccer.

Prep volleyball

Fred T. Foard 3, Bandys 0

The Lady Tigers won a home non-conference volleyball match with the Lady Trojans in three-straight sets, 25-9, 25-18 and 25-23.

St. Stephens 3, Bunker Hill 0

The Lady Indians beat the Lady Bears in Hickory, 25-11, 25-11 and 25-14.

Breanna Hall had 10 kills and four blocks, Katelyn Houser had eight kills and Jenna Boliek added seven kills.

St. Stephens' Bailey Cloninger added 18 assists, while Ashley Markland had nine digs defensively.

Lady Red Devils match moved

Newton-Conover's home volleyball game Thursday with North Iredell has been moved.

The Lady Red Devils will now play at North Iredell. Jayvees start play at 4 p.m. with varsity squad action to follow.

Boys soccer

St. Stephens 2, Shelby 1

The Indians won their first game under new coach Cory Morgan against the Golden Lions.

Luke Bruce and Tommy Vo both scored goals for Saint (1-0), while Miles Poage netted Shelby's goal.

Fred T. Foard 4, Mooresville 0

The Tigers started play at the Freedom Invitational Tournament with a shutout victory against the Blue Devils.

Zach Durham led Foard (1-0), pocketing two goals in the contest. Daniel Tomberlin and Kevin Ruffner also added a goal each.

Ruffner also had an assist on a score, as did Logan Winstead and Kevin Carillo.

Bandys 4, Lincoln Charter 2

Scoring four-straight goals, the Trojans started their season with a road win against the Eagles.

Kyle Enyeart, Bobby Wicks, Armando Rivera and Hunter Yancey each netted goals for Bandys (1-0). Rivera, Wicks and Kenny Ryan also had an assist each.
