PREP NOTEBOOK: Blue Devils earn third CVAC win

Maiden picked up its third win in conference play Tuesday with a 69-43 victory against Bandys at home.

Jason Gantt led all scorers with 27 points for the Blue Devils (7-12, 3-8), while Jalen Gibbs pitched in 18 points.

Hayden Deal scored a team-high eight points for Bandys (1-19, 0-11), while Hunter McCall pitched in seven points.

Newton-Conover 47, Bunker Hill 42

Behind 10 points from Joshuwell McCombs and nine points from Shane Laws, the Red Devils picked up a road conference victory against the Bears in Claremont on Tuesday.

Tyuon Shuford added eight points for Newton-Conover (13-, 8-3).

Jordan McGinnis led Bunker Hill (4-16, 4-7) with 16 points, while Taylor Simmons added nine points.

Fred T. Foard 52, Hibriten 46

The Tigers earned their second conference win of the season, building a first half lead and never relinquishing the lead.

Jordan Turner scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds for Foard (12-9, 2-8) in the Northwestern 3A/4A victory.

Manza Hunt scored 15 points to lead Hibriten (9-9, 2-7).

Girls basketball

Bandys 78, Maiden 24

Behind a balanced effort of scoring, the Lady Trojans remained atop the Catawba Valley 2A with a victory against the Lady Blue Devils in Maiden on Tuesday.

Madi Story scored 14 points, one of five Lady Trojans (19-1, 10-1) to notch double-digits in Tuesday's contest, which also included Sierra Brotherton (13), Chelsey Queen (12), Jesse Story (12) and Haleigh Lackey (10).

Taylor Coulter led Maiden (7-13, 1-10) with nine points.

Foard 71, Hibriten 43

Brooke Robinson scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers to their fifth conference victory of the season, topping the Lady Panthers at home.

Kayla Whitworth added a near double-double for Foard (12-9, 5-5) with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Ally Soldati led Hibriten (5-13, 2-7) with 21 points, while Keisha Corpening added 16 points.

Newton-Conover 86, Bunker Hill 28

The Lady Red Devils kept pace with Bandys atop the CVAC standings with an impressive victory against the Lady Bears in Claremont on Tuesday.

Taylor Petty scored a game-high 25 points, Shynese Whitener added 18 points and Lanecia Williams and Kadesha Gibbs pitched in 13 points each in the Newton-Conover (18-3, 10-1) victory.

Margaret Connor led Bunker Hill (0-20, 0-11) with 11 points in the game.
