POWERING UP THE COUNTY

December 24, 2013

Going Green could possibly be a new motto for Catawba County. Just last week, Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved the rezoning of 31 acres on Sigmon Dairy Farm Road for a new solar farm for Straya Solar.

For Straya, this marks their third solar farm and the fifth farm overall for county. Straya’s other two farms are located on Highway 16 north on Oxford School Road and Highway 10 west at the intersection on Zion Church Road. The other two farms in Catawba County belong to Apple, one located right across its data center on Star town road in Maiden while the other is located in Conover. Apple’s Maiden solar farm is considered the largest solar farm in the United States.

To read more of this story, pick up the Thursday edition of Catawba County's community newspaper, The Observer News Enterprise, at newsstands throughout the county.
