Post succeeds Bowne as Saint coach

June 22, 2011

Murphy Post, middle, was named the new St. Stephens
boys basketball coach Tuesday. Post replaces Gary
Bowne, left, who retired after 21 seasons.

To replace any area coaching legend, St. Stephens High School decided to hire from within its basketball family.

Murphy Post, a four-year member of the teaching faculty and coaching staff at the school, was named the new boys’ basketball coach. He replaces Gary Bowne, who retired last week from coaching and teaching.

Post has served as the junior varsity head coach for the program and an assistant under Bowne for the varsity program.

“Murphy exudes a contagious enthusiasm and youthful exuberance for the game of basketball, while incorporating an excellent rapport with his players,” said Dennis Whitener, assistant principal and athletic director. “He is an excellent classroom teacher and will be a very successful high school basketball coach. We are glad to have him prepared to take the helm of our men’s basketball program.”
