Post 48 still perfect with sweep of Asheville

Hickory Post 48 continued its early season surge with a sweep of Asheville Post 70 on Wednesday.

Post 48 improves to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Area IV West Division.

In the first game, seven runs on 11 hits lifted Post 48 to a 7-0 shutout.

Pitcher Jordan Fulbright tossed a complete game shutout, striking out four Post 70 batters and allowing one walk.

Davis Hanvey led the Hickory offense in game one, going 1-for-4 with a home run. Cole McGraw also had three hits in the game and drove in two runs, while Jordan Eckerd went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Strong pitching by Hickory once again was dominant in game two.

Colton Allison tossed another complete game, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), two walks and struck out five Asheville batters.

Defensively, Allison also picked off two runners at first base while on the mound.

Post 48 was paced on offense by a four-run third inning and also plated one run in the fifth.

Hickory's Tyler Pait led his team, going 2-for-4 from plate. Logan Gray, Ky'Rawn Whitfield and McGraw also had one hit each.

Post 48 tries to improve to 8-0 on Friday when it hosts Lincoln County at Henkel-Alley Field at the American Legion Fairgrounds at 7 p.m.
