This weekend you can support soldiers and veterans by wearing a red poppy flower.

During World War I soldiers brought back the red poppy flowers from the battlefields of Belgium. They were the only flowers to grow on the embattled fields.

Each year volunteers with the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars hand out these flowers during Memorial Week to pay tribute to soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
