Pond probe comes up empty

August 22, 2012

The report of a dead body in a pond drew investigators to Rock Barn Golf and Spa late Tuesday.

A sonar search of the water didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary, and now sheriff's deputies return their attention to the the unusual circumstances around a Hickory man's disappearance six days ago.

Catawba County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Rock Barn Golf and Spa Tuesday night around 8 p.m. A woman picking up golf balls along the pond on the 14th whole of the Robert Trent Jones Jr. course told Sheriff Coy Reid she thought she stepped on what felt like to be a body by the bank of the pond.

“We didn’t connect the call to the missing person case, but took the precautions,” said Reid.
