Pets killed in mobile home fire

December 20, 2010

Several animals died Monday after a mobile home fire in Hickory.

A cat, a female dog and her five puppies died in the blaze at 512 10th Street SW in lot 8. No other injuries were reported.

Hickory Fire Department responded to the scene at 1:16 p.m., and firefighters found flames coming from the front of the structure.

They responded to the scene with two engines, one ladder truck and one command vehicle. The fire was under control at 1:43 p.m.

It is unknown how much damage the structure sustained in the blaze. Officials are compiling damage estimates.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by combustible materials too close to a heat source.
