Pet food company to bring jobs to region

January 4, 2012

A pet food manufacturer plans to bring 150 new jobs to the region in the next two years.

Carolina Prime Pets, which manufactures premium pet food products, plans to relocate to Lenoir this year.

The Caldwell County Economic Development Commission (CCEDC) expects Friday to announce the plans.

Carolina Prime Pets currently operates in Murphy and plans to relocate to the former NACCO Industries building on Morganton Boulevard in Lenoir.

The company will purchase and renovate the 277,411-square-foot facility for an estimated $4.5 million. Renovations are expected to begin immediately, with an open slated for late 2012.

Caldwell County Commissioners agreed to provide the company with $296,000, or $2,000 per job, from the county’s Sales Tax Reinvestment Fund. In addition, with the assistance of the county, Carolina Prime Pets received financing in the form of Industrial Revenue Bonds for up to $4 million through the N.C. Department of Commerce.
