Pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 321

September 27, 2010

A homeless man was killed Friday as he tried to cross U.S. 321 in Hickory.

Rodney Lewis Church, 44, was struck by at least two cars about 10:25 p.m. as he attempted to cross U.S. 321 to reach a convenience store, according to the Hickory Police Department.

Police said Church was wearing dark clothes at the time of the incident, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

No charges were filed against the drivers of the cars. It does not appear that either driver was drinking.

It is unknown if Church was impaired when he attempted to cross the road.
