Payne convicted in child sex case

James William Payne, III, 47, of Newton, was convicted of Felony First Degree Sexual Offense with a Child and three counts Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child, Tuesday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.

The defendant was sentenced to no less than 300 months and no more than 369 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction. The defendant was also ordered lifetime registration with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry and will be subject to satellite based monitoring upon his release from prison.
