Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly was named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week following his performance on Sunday.

Kuechly, a rookie out of Boston College, made 16 tackles (a career high) to help Carolina defeat rival Atlanta, 30-20. He currently leads the NFL in tackles with 130.

The Falcons tallied just 35 yards of offense in the first half of Sunday's contest. Atlanta also scored the second lowest amount of points in its 2012 season.

Kuechly becomes the first Panther to win this top defensive honor since fellow linebacker Jon Beason claimed Defensive Player of the Week in 2009.
