Oliver's HR lifts Foard to 3A West Regional title

For the first time since 1998, Fred T. Foard will play for a softball state championship.

A two-run home run by Foard third baseman Ashley Oliver in the top of the sixth over right field helped the Lady Tigers (25-4) advance to next weekend's state championship series in Raleigh.

Foard faces Charles B. Aycock (29-2)in the best-of-three title series starting Friday at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh.

Aycock defeated Western Alamance (25-5), 5-4, in the second game of the best-of-three East Regional series on Friday.
