Newton businesses are coming together to award a special woman in need.
Dana's Fine Jewelry organized the Newton Cares campaign to recognize a woman, older than 18, who has cancer.
"We want to help a female out in the community who is really in need and going through a rough time with cancer," said Dana Ramseur, owner of Dana's Fine Jewelry.
In organizing the campaign, Ramseur solicited area businesses to donate anything from a gift certificate to dinner, dry cleaning, manicure and pedicure, and jewelry.
"We want to show our support that people do care," Ramseur said.
Now that most of the donations are in hand, Ramseur is seeking nominations for area women experiencing cancer. The deadline to nominate your family member or friend is Saturday.
Nominations may be dropped off at Dana's Fine Jewelry, 108 N. Main Ave. in Newton, or at The Observer News Enterprise, 309 N. College Ave. in Newton. If you prefer to e-mail nominations, send them to Ramseur at firstname.lastname@example.org or The O-N-E at email@example.com. Mark all nominations as "Newton Cares."
Submissions must include the cancer patient's name, address and phone number, as well as the person's name who is nominating her. Also, give a reason(s) for why she should be picked as the winner in no more than 200 words.
The winner will be announced Nov. 10 after a panel of judges reviews all nominations.
