What was once affectionately known as the Artist Cafe, will be known as Blue Moon Tavern come January 2013. The building has been empty for more than a year as the Artist Cafe closed its doors on July 23, 2011. But with a fresh awning out front and new seating inside, Blue Moon Tavern hopes to bring a new casual dining experience to Newton.

Fred Crosby, who helps run the popular Sidewalk Cafe and Bakery with his wife, Lamia, decided to branch out and create a new kind of dining experience. Crosby said he was approached about the building and started working on the new restaurant just a month ago.

“I had looked at the building a long time ago and the building has got a lot of charm to it,” Crosby said.
