The Newton Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for youth soccer, baseball, softball and girls volleyball. Sign-ups for soccer, baseball and softball continue through March 9. The deadline for volleyball is Feb. 17.
Youth leagues
- Youth soccer leagues include: mighty mites co-ed soccer (ages 4-6); bantam boys soccer (ages 7-8); bantam girls soccer, (ages 7-9); midget boys soccer (ages 9-10); midget girls soccer (ages 10-12); little boys soccer (ages 11-12); junior boys Soccer (ages 13-15); and junior girls soccer (ages 13-15). Players must be at least 4 years old before the last day of registration and cannot turn 16 before Aug. 31 to be eligible for participation.
- Youth baseball will have six divisions: tee-ball (boys and girls, ages 4-6); bantam league (boys ages 7-8); midget league (boys ages 9-10); little league (boys ages 11-12); junior league (boys ages 13-14); and senior league (boys ages 15-17). Players must be at least 4 years old before the last day of registration and cannot turn 18 before May 1 to be eligible for participation.
- Youth softball will have three divisions: pee-wee ( ages 7-9); midget, (ages 10-12); and junior (ages 13-16). Players must be at least 7 years old before the last day of registration to be eligible for participation.
- Youth girls volleyball leagues will age divisions 9-11, 12-14 and 15-16. Players must be at least 9 years old before the last day of registration and cannot turn 17 before Aug. 31 to be eligible for participation.
All new participants must have a birth certificate on file and/or visit the Newton Recreation Center for a registration packet.
There is a $30 non-resident fee (non-refundable) for each player who is not a resident of the city of Newton.
Note that registration is limited in each league; therefore, once a league is full, registrants will be put on a waiting list.

Shuford YMCA sign-ups
The Adrian L. Shuford Jr. YMCA is holding sign-ups for spring sports, including youth spring soccer and adult volleyball.
Youth soccer is for children ages 3-18. Registration is open through Feb. 12.
The cost for members if $45 and $80 for program members. Financial assistance is available. Call for more information.
Adult Volleyball is for ages 16 and older. Registration is also being held through Feb. 12.
The cost is $200 per team, but you can register as an individual.

Startown Optimist sign-ups
The Startown Optimist will be holding spring softball and baseball registration on Saturday, Feb. 4, Saturday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb.18 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.Â
The locations for registration will be the Big Red Park complex in Newton and the Startown Elementary Gym in Newton.Â
The fee is $70/player, ages 7-16 and $65/player for those participating in the Pee-Wee program, ages 4-6. These fees do cover the cost of uniforms along with insurance.  Â
Enjoy the instruction, fun and competition as your player improves their softball or baseball skills.Â
