New traffic pattern for elementary school

August 11, 2010

Newton-Conover City Schools and the Newton Police Department devised a new traffic pattern for South Newton Elementary School for morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up.
“It’s more of a safety issue than anything,” said Newton Police Chief Don Brown. “We want to keep students and their parents safe.”
Under the new traffic pattern, parents must travel to South Cline Avenue to access the school. The school’s U.S. 321 entrance, which is the road previously used to access the school, will be closed mornings and afternoons to school traffic.
A new driveway will be opened in the area near South Newton’s gymnasium to clear the intersection of South Cline Avenue and West I Street from traffic waiting to access the school.
Traffic heading north on South Cline Avenue will not be allowed to turn left into the loading area, so people accessing the school from U.S. 321 should travel south on D Street to access South Cline Avenue.
