New Newton-Conover City School

October 5, 2012

Monday, Oct. 1 Barry Redmond met with the Catawba County Board of commissions to ask for budget changes. The changes would help to fund the new South Newton Elementary campus. The school was built in stages with the oldest building constructed in 1958 and the newest building was erected in 1993.

With the county board’s approval, Newton-Conover City Schools now has the money for the new school and announced a lot of changes within the school system. Beam Construction Co. won the bid for the new elementary campus with a total estimated price of approximately $10.7 million. The price includes upgraded items like tile in bathrooms, Terrazzo flooring in the hallways and lobby area and three sets of refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers.
