NCHP: Meth found at motorcycle crash

September 25, 2012

NC Highway Patrol reports drugs and cash were found on the scene of last Sunday’s fatal motorcycle wreck on U.S. 321.

Driver John Franklin, 35, of Claremont, was carrying $1,714 in cash on him when the motorcycle he was driving crashed, NC Highway Patrol Sgt. J. Womack said.

Two weight scales and 7.5 grams of methamphetamine were also found in the compartment of the motorcycle after the wreck.

Highway Patrol officials are still investigating the incident.

Franklin and passenger Allison Nixon, 22, of Conover, died on Sept. 16 when the two were involved in a chase that started in Blowing Rock. The chase started as a Blowing Rock police officer saw Franklin speeding and continued into Caldwell County. Highway Patrol officials say the chase was called off because of speed, the fact that the motorcycle was carrying a passenger and the amount of traffic.
