A Newton company will be featured Tuesday on the Nate Berkus Show after it donated materials for a remodeling project in New York City.
Lee Industries provided eight leather dining chairs, four leather bar stools, two sofas, four apartment sofas and eight occasional chairs for the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in New York City.
Bondi Coley, Lee Industries marketing manager, said the business was asked to partner in the project because of its American-made merchandise.
"The Nate Berkus show designer for the Hope Lodge project contacted me about participating in the redesign of the congregating room at Hope Lodge NYC," Coley said. "They were looking for a partner and chose (Lee Industries) because of our American-made quality and fashion-foward styles. They also applauded our sustainability intitiatives, as this space is LEED certified."
Coley said the total amount for all furniture in the project was more than $46,640, and Lee Industries donated more than a quarter of that amount.
Coley said Lee Industries' employees were willing to help with the project, even with a quick turnaround.
"We were contacted at the beginning of May about the project," Coley said. "It was a very quick turnaround, but our associates all pitched in and got the furniture to the facility in about five days. It was a huge accomplishment."
Lee Industries is familiar with helping non-profits, even though this was the first time the company assisted with Hope Lodge.
"It is very rewarding to know that our furniture will be in a place to make those having treatments for cancer, feel more at home," Coley said. "The senior managing executive for the Hope Lodge NYC said the sixth-floor common area, where the patients can relax and socialize, has been getting lots more use since the makeover occurred."
Lee Industries is a family owned upholstery company that has been manufacturing quality, American made products since 1969. Today, the company has about 500 associates and still manufactures its products in three facilities in Newton.
The Before and After show on the Nate Berkus Show will air at 11 a.m. Tuesday on WAXN channel 64.
