NASCAR great Ervin passes

One of NASCAR’s original cast and local radio personality John Carl Ervin, 74, died Friday, Feb.  22, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford.

A long-time NASCAR veteran crew chief, Ervin worked with three generations of the Jarrett racing family, Ned Jarrett, Dale Jarrett, and Jason Jarrett.

Ervin was inducted into the NASCAR Mechanics Sports Hall of Fame, Talladega, AL in 1997.

In the early to mid 1960’s Ervin used his knowledge of mechanics to help Ned Jarrett dominate the Grand National circuit.
